The Office

(*sigh*) Seriously? First episode back after like a month and a half, and it's a clips show??? Come on guys -- NBC can't afford this right now. Especially with the whole late-night meltdown...

(Although I do have to admit, it's making me laugh. *grin* But still, much rather have new material...)

I'm out of the loop on whats up with Conan. What's his meltdown?

Oh, it's just the whole drama about how both Jay's and Conan's ratings have tanked since they rearranged the lineup (putting Conan on Tonight and Jay in his primetime slot). Apparently, although they supposedly originally promised them each something like a year to work things out and let the ratings settle where they were going to settle, NBC got cold feet about a week or two ago and decided they needed to make some changes immediately. (I think there was something about how it was affecting not only the ratings of these two shows, but also all the local and national news programs around them.) Basically they essentially asked Conan to step aside and give Tonight back to Jay, and the two comedians have been in talks with the network about who was going where and what all their various contract situations would be for the last couple of weeks (because, of course, both of their contracts probably have provisions preventing them from working for other networks and things immediately after leaving NBC, even if it's the network that chooses to take them off the air).

Anyway, from what I hear, it seems that Conan has negotiated a hefty settlement (including very nice severance pay for all of his staff) and will be leaving the network pretty much immediately. Not sure exactly how soon Jay will be moving back to The Tonight Show, but it seems pretty clear that that's what's going to happen.

Lol -- I don't even watch either of these shows, actually, but I keep hearing about it peripherally through news articles and on other late night shows (I'm partial to Stewart/Colbert and Craig Ferguson myself). Actually, the truth is that NBC has probably been getting their best late-night ratings in months because of this whole mess. They should just stoke the fire and drag out the negotiations for awhile -- that would solve everything... (*grin*)

Thank you. I'm not much for keeping up with politics and things such as this so a breakdown helps me immensely. Not that I care what these two over paid fools are doing, I just want to know what everyone is talking about. lol
