Mixed Vegetables
So, now that I've got all the kinks worked out of this thing (as far as I know), I thought I'd actually make a real entry (as opposed to the test entries I've been making so far). Yay me!
There's apparently and old (Corinthian? I can't remember...) saying that goes "His words were like mixed vegetables," -- thus the title of this entry. Before you ask what the fuck it means, let me tell you -- I have absolutely no idea. It's just one of the many odd and (for all we can tell) useless sayings that my family and I learned while playing the game "Wise and Otherwise" last night. If you've never heard of it, it's sort of like the game "Balderdash" (sometimes called "Fictionary"), except that you have to make up the second half of an obscure adage instead of making up the definition to an obscure word. It was actually a lot of fun. Believe it or not, I actually managed to fool two people with the made-up Roman saying "Do what you must to kill the monkey in your tree." It was late and I was punchy, and for some reason all I could think of seemed to have to do with monkeys -- so finally I gave in and wrote this. Lo and behold, two people picked it. And mind you, these are smart people -- just gives you an idea of how bizarre some of the real sayings were. There was another one from Ireland (a real one) that went "Don't bolt your door with a boiled carrot." Yeah...words to live by...
Well, I think I mentioned my Christmas presents in my last post, but I didn't go into detail, and since I'm the author of this journal (and thus the god of my little world here), I have decided to mention them *again* -- this time in a bit more detail. Muahahaha!
My best present was an ipod, which I can't actually use until the Geek Squad comes out and exorcises the virus from our basement computer so I can load the software -- but it *looks* really cool...(*grin*) I also got some great CDs, the highlight of which is probably REM's Greatest Hits (I officially *love* REM now, thank you very much). Then again, Green Day's American Idiot album is quite awesome as well ("Don't wanna be an American idiot / Don't want a nation that under the new media / And can you hear the sound of hysteria? / The subliminal mind fuck America." Ahh, were truer words ever spoken? And of course, who better to represent our arrogant nation than the quintessential idiot himself?).
In the DVD category, I received "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" (makes me cry every time -- I love it!), "Fahrenheit 9/11" (bet you can't guess who I voted for in the last election...I'm *so* subtle about it...), and the seventh season of "Ranma 1/2", which is the only one I have yet to see (and the only one besides season four that I don't already own) -- and it is fast becoming my favorite. Not only have I finally figured out where the hell "Moko Takabishia" came from, but practically every episode either involves or features Ryoga -- who is, hands down, my favorite character ever, anywhere (he even beats Sano and Inuyasha). He's so sweet! "Where the heck am I now?!" (*sigh*)
Let's see, what else...I got a couple of books -- oh! I almost forgot one of the best things! My sister gave me this book called "America (the book)," a spoof American History textbook, written by John Stewart (from The Daily Show). It's hilarious! One of the "discussion questions" at the end of one of the chapters is "The notion that each individual has worth in society found political expression in the invention of democracy. What's bullshit about this?"
Anyway, there's not a whole lot going on around here at the moment. My dad's family are over at our house, but we're sort of all spread out. I think some people went out for a walk, others are in the other room playing DDR, and...I dunno where everyone else is...
