Well, I was trying to pay attention to Joe Biden's little introductory video, but I kept getting distracted by the music. The score from Apollo 13 made sense -- but they led off with the score from No Reservations, that Catherine Zeta-Jones and Aaron Eckhart movie that came out a year or two ago (which is actually really good. I'd heard it wasn't, but I rented it a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it. Anyway, I digress...). It's good music (Philip Glass) -- but still, I thought it was sort of an odd choice reference-wise. And although the music itself is good, I found it a bit repetative and overused in the movie. It sort of kept going around in circles, never really breaking out into a release or a bridge or a development, or whatever you want to call it. Anyway, I guess that doesn't really have anything to do with Joe Biden, but yeah... (*grin*)
Y'know, I didn't watch more than an hour or two of Olympics in two weeks (and most of what I watched was the opening ceremony), but I've been glued to this convention since Monday. Personally, I think Michelle Obama has been the highlight so far -- although Hillary's speech was excellent, and hopefully will help bring the party back together. That's the thing that really scares me -- all those die-hard Hillary supporters who threaten to vote McCain just to spite Obama for winning. I think Hillary's great, and I would love to see a woman become president, but I've been pulling for Obama since he gave that speech at the 2004 convention, and I think he'll be a fantastic president (*knock on wood*). And Bill's speech tonight was really nice. He's kinda been making an ass out of himself lately, but the truth is that he's always represented my idea of what a president should be. He was elected when I was five years old (and I'm sorry to say that I voted against him in my kindergarten class's "election." But in my defense, my decision was based solely on the fact that I had heard of President Bush before... *grin*), so he's really the president I grew up with. Now, I wouldn't exactly want to be married to the guy (*grin*) -- but as a president, I think he did a pretty damn good job.
God, if Obama doesn't win, I'm moving out of the country (*grin*). I seriously don't think I can take another four years of the same old crap. John McCain is worlds better than Bush, and he was the only remotely palatable candidate in the Republican primary (indeed, the only Republican I can listen to for more than ten minutes without wanting to throw things at the TV...) -- but the way things are going he's steadily losing ground on both counts. It's just ridiculous...
I'm going to try to watch the Republican convention next week, if only out of sheer morbid curiosity as to what their strategy is -- I just don't see how they have a leg to stand on at this point (but then again, I didn't see it in 2004 either. Shows how much I know... *sigh*).
LOL -- on a completely inconsequential note, I love that Joe Biden is from Scranton. Every time they mention it, I think of "The Office"... (*grin*)
