Amy's Choice

Alright, now we're getting somewhere... ;)

That was a good episode. Great premise, well realized, strongly tied in with character relationships -- and it made me cry! And this time it wasn't because I was pining for David Tennant! (*grin*) Always a good sign...

I think I'm realizing that Matt Smith's Doctor annoys me a little bit -- he's more prickly and impatient, less charming and gregarious than I'm used to. I don't mean that necessarily as a criticism -- it's just something I need to acknowledge in order to readjust my expectations of him. If I expect him to fill the same gap as...ahem...previous doctors, I'll be disappointed. I have to get used to not only seeing him as a different character, but also looking at him from a different angle.

Yes, that was a very good episode. I wonder if I'm the only one who actually had to adjust to David Tennant as the Doctor? Even though Utopia was the first episode I saw, I consider Christopher Eccleston to be MY Doctor.(Personally, it was the leather jacket that did it for me.)

I hope Matt Smith starts to grow on you. Personally, I'm looking forward to the Christmas special that we actually get to see on Christmas in the States! Banzai!

I know what you mean -- the first episodes I ever saw were "Doomsday" and "The Runaway Bride," but by the time I had finished actually watching the first season I had sort of gotten used to Christopher Eccleston, and I was a little wary of the change. Even though my whole reason for buckling down and watching the show in the first place was because I thought DT was interesting and wanted to see what he could do (and he was the main one I thought of as "The Doctor" in the abstract before I really knew much about the show), when I first saw CE regenerate into DT, I was a bit dismayed. And I stayed a little iffy on him through "The Christmas Invasion"...but I think by "New Earth" he had pretty much won me over.

I like Christopher Eccleston, but I always had a few nitpicks with his performance. Never thought he quite made the "bipolar" aspect of the character work -- it was always jarring with him, whereas DT somehow made it make sense. The leather jacket was pretty cool though. (Although I do quite love DT's pinstripes and plimsolls... ;) I would definitely consider Eccleston my second favorite Doctor.

Re. the Christmas special -- I know!! I probably won't actually get to watch the broadcast (our house will be filled with relatives for about three days straight), but I'm hoping to at least catch a glimpse of it here and there. At least it'll be nice to know it's on! ;)
