So, this afternoon when I was eating lunch with my relatives, my uncle turned on Rush Limbaugh.

Rush. LIMBAUGH.

I was actually listening to Rush Limbaugh... (*shivers*)

This is why I always feel a little ill at ease with that branch of the family. I love them dearly, but every so often they throw me a curve ball like that that reminds me of the apparent philosophical gulf between us. I always have to watch my step.

LOL. Your ears are still intact, I hope? =P

My family cannot understand why I refuse to listen to talk radio, conservative or liberal. They're all so inflammatory and ridiculous - ughhh.

Don't worry! Now that health care reform is passing, he says he's going to move to Costa Rica... which has universal health care. *headdesk*

LOL. Yeah I heard that. Oops! Well, maybe he could at least hide out in Hawaii until this thing goes into full effect, just to get some distance from all these crazy socialists -- oh, wait...they already have public healthcare...

Darn. Well, there's always Somalia...

Just barely -- I managed to escape before they actually started bleeding... ;)

Yeah, I'm not really a talk radio person either. The only thing I ever listen to is Prairie Home Companion -- and while Garrison Keillor's newspaper editorials certainly lean left, there isn't much in the way of politics evident in his Lake Wobegon stories. These days (aside from all the bitchy comments I have to read for work) I'm actually getting most of my news through the BBC -- nice to get it with a little more perspective and a little less partisan rancor and bitter sarcasm. That's what The Daily Show is for (*grin*). CNN is the closest thing to neutral in US cable news, but they try so hard to stay neutral that they seem to spend more time reading twitter posts and playing with fancy technology than actually conveying information -- lol...

When my grandparents turn on FoxNews in front of me, they get the equivalent of a DVD commentary track. I'll be sitting there, playing video poker, and constantly saying things like, "That's untrue. That's untrue. That's a straw man. It's 32%, not 45%. That was debunked. That's a logical fallacy."

Occasionally it triggers an argument that I win (not because I'm smart, but because I only trigger arguments that I can win). Most of the time, they switch to CNN after awhile.

LOL -- now that is something I would LOVE to see. Invite me over next time your grandparents turn on Fox News... (*grin*)

Somalia? Surely we can find some place more fitting than that. Is the 9th level of Hell still open for business?
