Apparently some woman was beaten unconscious (and possibly sexually assaulted?) in a bar called "Social" in Midtown by some random guy because she had refused to dance with him. The really scary thing? I've actually been to that bar -- it's not a particularly seedy place in not a particularly seedy area. Stuff like that shouldn't happen anywhere, of course, but this is not exactly the kind of place where you would automatically expect that you're taking your life into your hands just by going in. Really makes you think, don't it...eeks...

Ugh. Disgusting. This is exactly why I take self-defense, and why I think every woman should. It's not just about learning how to do it but learning the confidence to *actually* do it. It's really easy to say that you'd kick a guy like that in the crotch, but it's actually really difficult to think about hurting someone if you're not used to it. Maybe misogynistic jerks like this will leave women alone if we all knew how to send them to the hospital and had the readiness to do it.
