Okay, I'm cheating a tiny bit on my deal with myself -- I decided to order my iPod Touch now, even though it's only the first day of the diet (*grin*). I found a good price, and I didn't want to miss it -- besides, I figure it'll be easier to get my mind off of all the stuff I can't have if I have a new toy to play with. And the new deal is that if I fail to successfully complete the first two weeks on this first shot, I have to put the new iPod back in its box and tuck it away in the closet until I do. That sounds fair, right?

In the meantime...new iPod! Yay!!

(*grin*)

I'm also trying to teach myself to like tea. I dunno why -- I guess just because it's a good, non-fattening way to satisfy my oral fixation and general fidgety nature. And I'm not really supposed to have Altoids or gum (unless it's sugarless -- yuck) for at least these two weeks, so that knocks out my two main things. I figure tea is probably a better choice than taking up smoking, and the taste is equally appealing -- lol. I'm starting with green tea, but I kinda want to try "Tea. Earl Grey. Hot," too... (*grin*)

(If you know the reference, you win an imaginary brownie. Can't keep real ones in the house anymore -- sorry!)

Chai tea.

That is all.

Also, I hear that line in Sean Connery's voice...and I have no idea why.

Ah -- interesting. My sister drinks that all the time, but I've never tried it. Have to pick some up next time I'm at the store...

(Lol -- close! It's Patrick Stewart... ;)

It is very good. Of course, I have to have some tea with my sugar so... Yeah. Can't speak to the bitterness. It's a black tea if that makes any difference to you.

Gypsy Tea makes an excellent one if you can find it. It's called Fireside Chai and is usually in the organic section. (I know Kroger carries it. Not sure if you have those up there.) Also, Lipton's Spiced Chai -- which you should be able to find just about anywhere -- is really good.

Patrick... Stew -- I want my brownie, damn it! But only if you'll meet me on the Holo-deck. ^_~

Alright, alright -- here's half. (*hands brownie*) I get the rest. Where shall we holo-meet? Paris? A Dixon Hill novel? Captain Proton's Rocketship? Oh no wait, that one was Voyager, wasn't it...

(*grin*)

Yes, I have seen way too much Star Trek... ;)

Too easy - Captain Jean Luc Picard, of course. :P

I drink the chai tea mix (which actually translates to "tea tea" from Chinese, lol) from Starbucks the most. It's half mix and half milk. But it does have sugar in it. Less than you'd think, but yeah, probably not acceptable. ;) But maybe raspberry tea? If I'm not drinking chai or green tea, that's what I have.

(*hands brownie*) Enjoy!

I know, I keep wanting to abbreviate it to just "chai," but that just reminds me of the fact that "chai" just means "tea," which sounds too general all by itself. I know "chai tea" is redundant, and yet if I just say "chai" I feel (most likely irrationally) like people won't know which kind of "chai" I'm talking about or something...lol...

Raspberry sounds interesting -- I'm usually more of a savory taster than a sweet one, and I generally don't like fruity things, but it might be good in a tea. Part of my problem with fruit-flavored things is that the flavor is always so intense and concentrated, but my problem with tea is usually the opposite -- maybe the two elements would balance each other out...

LoL. Yeah, I still call it chai tea too. Just not in front of my Chinese mother-in-law - I got tired of her correcting me. :P

I'm obviously all over the map when it comes to tea. But at least there's lots of kinds you can try to see if you like any of them!

Immediately caving to an impulse for instant gratification does not bode well for your success.

Don't get too excited early. You've gotta knock calories off in 3500kCal chunks to actually lose a pound of fat. You might lose six, seven pounds immediately, but it's water weight no longer being stored as you shed carbohydrates (see -hydrates).

Well duh -- lol. If I had any self-control, I'd be a size 2, and I'd have piles of money stashed away in the bank like my sister does, from all those years of no-strings-attached allowance (*sigh* those were the days...). As it is, I'm not, and I'm several thousand dollars in debt (though thankfully only to my parents). I'm well aware of my all-consuming addiction to instant gratification -- weening oneself off of essentially unlimited resources is a very slow and painful process, I can tell you. For the last year or so, my eating habits have gradually gotten worse to compensate for my sudden post-graduation financial squeeze, and now that I'm starting to make progress in that area I'm moving over to start tackling the food issues. That's bound to mean a little slippage on the financial side of the ledger, at least at first. Anyway, in my defense, I made this deal with myself about a month ago, so I actually have waited that long to make the purchase (as opposed to caving earlier and completely divorcing the reward from the task at hand). Believe me, for me, that's a huge step forward... (*grin*)

At the moment, I'm really not focused on results, just on keeping myself to the rules. And this isn't like a "losing weight to fit into a dress" diet -- I'm aiming to stick to it pretty strictly for at least a year. More than a weight issue, it's a self-control issue -- I'm trying to teach myself to live better, one small step at a time. It sucks. But I'll get through it. I may not have a lot of self-control, but I'm very determined... ;)

I ♥ tea with a passion! I've also been slowly trying to ween myself off my regular unhealthy habits, not so much to lose weight but to be healthier, and it's not easy. As for favorite tea, have you had almond milk tea or Thai iced tea? Those are pretty strong, not so much fruity, especially the Thai one but it's amazing.

Yay for the new iPod!

Mmm, haven't tried either of those. I'll put them on the list -- thanks!

Yeah, the new iPod is still updating so I haven't actually gotten to try it out yet, but I love it already. It's just so pretty... ;)
