Shoop, shoop, shoop...
Feb. 15th, 2010 08:27 pmFinally getting around to finishing my whole data backup project. I've cleaned out my spare hard drives of their previous makeshift backup attempts, I've got my new passport drive fully backed up with all my stuff (as well as my online backup copy), and now I'm moving most of my old video podcasts (mostly episodes of Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow) off to my other hard drive to free up more space on my actual computer hard drive. Not that I'm exactly running out -- the empty space on this computer is still about twice the size of the entire drive on my old computer -- but those podcasts do eat up a lot of space, and they collect pretty quickly. Once I've seen them I don't really need them, but I like to hang onto them just in case. I'm a technological pack-rat... ;)
They're showing the Men's Downhill on the Olympics just now -- I like this event because it's probably the only thing in either the summer or winter Olympics that I could actually conceivably do. Not that I'm anywhere near as fast or fearless as these guys, but I have all the basic skills you need to ski the course. If I'd been more inclined to spend serious time and energy on athletics and less averse to the prospect of breaking bones, I could have seen myself skiing competitively. Downhill, I mean -- the thing with the moguls and the flippy-jumps they were doing the other day, not so much. Moguls are not fun. Neither is landing on your head and breaking your neck. Actually, I used to be more adventurous on skis when I was younger, but in recent years I've found that I'm good enough at it that it's sort of boring to just ski the hill, but I don't feel daring enough to risk injury by taking jumps and moguls and other obstacles like I used to, so I have trouble enjoying skiing at all anymore. Every time I try it I just end up cold, sore, and bored. Last few ski trips I've taken I've spent most of my time sitting in the condo -- which I actually really enjoy (makes a nice change from Manhattan), but I wish I could find a way to enjoy the skiing itself again. I think I might like it better if we went back to the mountains (rather than just the small hill resorts in the upper midwest) -- but of course, those trips are expensive, especially if I'm going to get there only to find out that I still don't like skiing. Really I think the best thing would be if I got back into better shape. If I felt better and stronger and going in, I might be able to ski a bit more aggressively and feel a little less sore.
Rambling. Anyway, back to fidgeting with my computer...
