A...unique interpretation
Feb. 9th, 2010 07:47 pmJust finished watching Around the World in 80 Days -- the 2004 version with Jackie Chan and Steve Coogan. It was...kinda stupid at the beginning, but it grew on me (*grin*). Once you sort of get into the swing of it, the stupidness becomes part of the humor, like self-parody -- and there are actually some clever lines and sweet moments. Loved the cameos too -- Arnold Schwarzenegger (who was Governor of California by the time this movie actually came out, I might add) as the Turkish prince was...surreal, but Luke and Owen Wilson as the Wright brothers were adorable. I'd sort of hoped that Owen Wilson would show up somehow when they were crossing the American West (I'm a big fan of Shanghai Noon... *grin*), but I didn't think he actually would. And John Cleese's little two-line bit near the end made me squee in surprise, of course -- though I think it would have been funnier if it had been Michael Palin. Not sure how many people would have gotten the joke (the first of Mikey's BBC travel documentaries was Around the World in 80 Days, in which he traced Phileas Fogg's route in 80 days without using any air travel), but I still think it would have been hilarious... (*grin*)
(*sigh*) Should probably get some stuff done. I didn't really intend to spend my whole afternoon watching a movie, but it was on TV, so...oops. (*grin*) Alright, let's get busy...
