My hair is too damn short. Grrr...

It used to be relatively long (close to midway down my back, I think), but I got it cut about a week ago, and I made the mistake of trusting my hairdresser to have *heard* me when I said I still wanted it to be long, just not *as* long. To him, apparently, shoulder length qualifies as "long." Not only that, but he didn't even put in any layers, so I have to do more work than ever to keep it from looking bland and boring...(*sigh*)

I suppose it's not so bad, really -- my friends have all said it looks cute -- but I've always been particularly partial to long hair myself, and it pisses me off that I'm going to have to wait another year or so before it'll be back to a satisfactory length.

Oh guess what -- my little sister just got her driver's license. Crap, crap, *crap*! Now I have to share my car -- and anyone who knows me knows that I hate to share. I'm a bit of a selfish brat by nature (comes with the territory of being the oldest). My one saving grace is that my sister doesn't actually know how to *get* anywhere, so if I can just keep her from learning her way around the city...

I sound pissy, don't I? Oddly enough, I'm actually in a pretty good mood -- just felt like complaining. I never tire of complaining (well gee, don't I sound like a pleasant one? A spoiled brat who loves to compain...*grin*).

Anyway, what else...I worked with a coach on my pieces for my NYU audition yesterday, and I feel a million times better about them. I can't believe it's this weekend -- but once that hurdle is over with I'll get to relax a bit an enjoy a weekend in NYC with my dad. Then I have to come back and run around in circles to see how much crap I can get done before I leave for San Antonio with the Concert Choir the next weekend. Oooh, and I'll be getting back in time to watch the Oscars! Yay! Movies are my first love...

I'm such a dork. Not necessarily because of the movies thing -- just in general. (*grin*)

I have the song "Desperado" stuck in my head. I heard it awhile ago and, of course, immediately thought of Inuyasha (told you I was a dork), so I finally dug up my dad's Eagles CD and started playing it over and over on my computer. I'm in the process of writing a songfic for it, but it's only about 800 words so far -- still a bunch I have to flesh out, but I think I have the basic premise pretty much taken care of. Who knows if I'll ever finish it or if it'll go the way of all the other half-written songfics/oneshots cluttering up my hard drive. I have one for the song "Careful," by Guster, that I really want to finish at some point, because I absolutely love that song. I always seem to grind to a halt when I write songfics, because no matter what they really can't turn out quite the way I see them in my head. The fundamental flaw in them is that you can't actually hear the music, so you have to somehow convey the mood of the melody and instrumentation without sound. It's very very difficult to pull off without letting it get cheesy -- in fact, I think I've only ever managed to really pull it off twice, one of which is contained within chapter four of "Alter Ego." The other was part of a piece I did for my writing class, but it's not posted online.

"Desperado, why don't you come to your senses? You been out ridin' fences for so long now... Oh, you're a hard one -- I know that you got your reasons. These things that are pleasin' you...can hurt you somehow..." 'Desperado' just came on (the CD is playing on my computer)...(*sigh*) "...You better let somebody love you, before it's too late..."

Man, that's a good song.

Okay, okay, this is getting really long, and at this point I'm just rambling about whatever comes to mind, so one last thing and then I'll shut up. Here's my question: How do you do that thing where you type an lj user's name into an entry and it turns into a link to that user's page? Or for that matter, how do you link to anything in an entry? I can't for the life of me figure out how people are doing this. Could someone please help poor, technologically-impaired little me? I'll love you forever...(*grin*)

You like the Eagles! <3 Old stuff is the best...

LoL it's okay, I don't like sharing either. -sigh- But oh well... that's life.

Hee, to link to a person's lj name put --> < lj user = "xxxxxxx" / > only take out the spaces. But that's just for html... if you're using the rich text format, all you have to do is push the little "lj username" button after highlighting the desired username... xD

But watch out, the rich text format can be mega glitchy. I suggest just learning the html, it is much easier in the long run and will save you entries being accidently erased or screwed up. Anyway, here is the stuff that I use most often. Just change all the ( )'s to < >'s.

(lj user="frameofmind6") = [livejournal.com profile] frameofmind6
(a href="http://www.google.com")Link to Google(/a) = Link to Google
(b)bold(/b) = bold
(u)underline(/u) = underline
(i)italics(/i) = italics

Also useful, here's how to do an LJ Cut:

This is the first part of my entry, which you will see on the front page and the comments page.
(lj-cut text="Link to the comments page.")
This is the part of the entry that you will only be able to see on the comments page.
(/lj-cut)
This is the last part of the entry, which you will see on the front page and the comments page.

As always, replace ( )'s with < >'s. Obviously, this won't show up in a comment, but in an entry this will get you a cut titled "Link to the comments page." which will take you to the comments page where you will be able to see the entire entry including what is behind the cut. Useful if you want to hide a long entry, avoid cluttering up your lj with memes, get someone's attention, etc.

Thanks so much! That's awsome -- I totally get it now. At least I think so...better go try it out...

And yeah, I probably will stick to html for now (at least I think that's what I've been using), just for the sake of simplicity. Chances are I'd end up deleting my entire journal by accident or something if I tried to figure out what to do with rich text. (*grin*)

Whoa, freaky coincedences.

I too just got my hair cut (well, I cut it the first time in November, and i just went back for a trip yesterday). I used to keep it down to the small of my back, but it was always tangled and messy and full of split-ends, so I got it cut to around my shoulders as well.

Also, my younger brother just his his driver's license, as well. In fact, he just borrowed my car to go to the bank. Right now, he just drives around town running errands, but I'm dreading the day he asks me to borrow my car so he can go out with his friends. I'll tell him he can take my dad's minivan. I had to drive my friends around in that bucket when I was in high school, so it's only fair that he has to as well. :P
