Just got back from NYC, where I had my audition on Saturday. It went pretty well -- the sight-reading was ridiculously easy (all stepwise, except for one major third, all quarter notes and half notes, and it was in a major key. We did harder sight-reading than that as (i)freshmen(/i)...), and I didn't have any trouble with the tonal recall or the little basic music theory quiz (except for one question on the latter, which I'm pretty sure I missed). I did make a couple of errors in singing my pieces though -- hopefully the judges didn't notice (heh -- fat chance...). Anyway, I don't think I'll get in (NYU is an incredibly competitive school, and I overheard a few (i)really(/i) good singers as they auditioned), but at least I gave it a shot.
While we were in the area, my dad and I also stopped by Yale to take a tour, since I'm applying there as well -- it was absolutely beautiful, not what I'd expected based on reports of what it had been like when my parents were college age (my dad had a friend who went there). The architecture was a mix of Georgian and Gothic, so it had this old European-ish feel to it. Anyway, it was awesome -- it's definitely moving up in my "want" list.
I think I've decided that even if I don't end up going to school there, I'll probably live in Manhattan at some point. I absolutely love the city, and each time I visit it I get a little more comfortable in it. I'm finally getting used to crossing streets in crowds and ignoring the streetlights and crazy cab drivers and such.
Well, I've been traveling for most of the day, so I'm beat. Nighty night...
