30 Days of The Untamed: Day 1

I didn’t get to do this meme when it was about Guardian (I mean I could have, but my complicated relationship with it would have made a lot of my answers kind of a buzzkill ^^), but now that it’s been adapted for The Untamed… : )
The blame for this falls squarely on the shoulders of
bellemainec and
mazauric . They were already into it last summer and following new episodes as they were being released—in fact I think I remember bellemainec talking about the novel and/or anime several months before that, so she is probably the original shin-hannin of pulling our friend group down this particular rabbit hole. : ) Anyway, when
jo_lasalle and
solo and I were in Japan in August, around the time the show finished airing, bellemainec and mazauric talked us into watching the first few episodes, just to try it out. (I agreed on the condition that they could assure me that the thing that had burned me with Guardian would not burn me with this one… : )
We didn’t exactly immediately fall in love with it, but we were intrigued enough to keep watching after we got home. (I thought Wei Wuxian was *adorable*, and Lan Zhan had juuust enough visible depth to make me curious to understand him better.) I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say that we remained… skeptical for about the first 20 episodes or so (Jo went so far as to poll twitter to find out how long we should stick it out)—but by the end of episode 20, we were completely hooked. I remember somewhere in the middle of the episode the two of us just looked at each other like, “uhh… suddenly we’re not making fun of this anymore… >__>”
Anyway, it was a long walk, but it was *super worth it*. Even the episodes we found boring on first watch seem to be full of fannish goodness on rewatch… : )
(So to anyone who found it not their thing and gave up before episode 20—give it another try! You might be surprised… : )
(See here if you're curious!)
