Score one for me!
Mar. 15th, 2010 01:37 amOkay, so I was flipping channels looking for something to watch, and there was nothing on, so I ended up settling on BBC America, which is showing Goldfinger. Not really a Bond fan, but I figured what the hell. Anyway, I'm half watching when Bond goes to this dinner with these two old guys who are explaining something about Fort Knox (presumably they're filling him in on his mission for the movie -- I really wasn't paying close attention), and I realize that the guy with the mustache looks vaguely familiar. My first thought was that he reminded me of a slightly younger version of the guy who played Michael Palin's dad in the Ripping Yarns episode "Roger of the Raj" (which would have been about ten years later) -- so I toddle over to IMDB, find the guy from "Roger" (Richard Vernon), and sure enough, what else should I find on his resume? Goldfinger. I rock!
But seriously, this Goldfinger guy -- how scary could he possibly be? He looks more like a cranky old uncle than an international supervillain. And as for Oddjob -- lol. I can't look at him without thinking of the guy from Austin Powers. I can never remember which one of them throws the hat and which one throws the shoe. Both attacks are equally stupid. (Then again, I suppose someone who obsesses over characters with attacks like "the Cat-Fist" or "Iron-reaver-soul-stealer" probably shouldn't talk... *grin*) Ooh -- he just threw the hat and sliced a head off a statue, so I guess that must be the real one...
(Lol -- the little three-note "Goldfinger" motif keeps showing up in the score, and I keep hearing it as the beginning of "Moon River"... ;)
