Lol -- just reading one of those advice column things, and this one made me laugh (emphasis mine):


Dear Amy: My friend and I go out quite frequently and have noticed many things that bother us.

For instance, we have noticed patrons charging their cell phones using the outlets at the dining establishments. We see cell phones on the floor nowhere near the table where the owner is seated.

Last weekend at a pancake house, we noticed young women wearing pajama pants. And for some time now, we have seen men enjoying their meals with hats still on their heads.



(*gasp*) Sacrebleu!!! Enjoying a meal (at a pancake house, of all places!) with one's hat still upon one's head? What is the world coming to? It's an outrage!

LOL.

Seriously, did this person grow up in the nineteenth century or something? If people wearing hats is the only thing that bothers you about eating in a pancake house, you should be seriously concerned for your taste in cuisine... (*grin* jk. Not a fan of "breakfast food"...)

LOL, I see people always do this when we're on road trips and don't have car chargers.

As for the hat thing, I see it as an expectation a lot more in the south than in California, though it's definitely becoming more obsolete. The nicer the place though, the higher the expectation to remove the hat. However, yeah, pancake house? Probably not going to happen.

If you're at Ruth's Chris, yeah, probably don't want to leave your hat on (in fact, you probably wouldn't wear the kind of hat you would ever leave on anywhere in the first place) -- but at a Friday's or an IHOP or something, all bets are off... ;)

That's interesting that it's sort of a southern thing though -- I haven't spent much time in the south myself, so I guess I wouldn't have had much chance to pick up that bit of etiquette. Don't really wear hats either, come to think of it, except for warmth outdoors in the winter...
